Teachers involved in modern language education and/or co-teaching in CLIL programmes in secondary and adult/vocational education will be trained how to design learning activities using AI-based digital tools and methodologies to support the development of relevant (language) learning skills such as:
- noticing and memorizing formulaic language, subject terminology and/or academic & genre features.
- writing in the language / CLIL classroom
Learning objectives
- Participants become familiar with the potential of AI and the use of specifically designed corpora and related applications & methodologies to facilitate language and CLIL teaching and learning, also with a view to compensating for limitations of AI.
- Delegates learn how to find and select appropiate input materials and develop learning activities & materials to support reading skills and lexicogrammar competence development
- Participants Learn how to effectively intereact with generative AI applications and know how to support learner training with respect to AI tools to promote self-regulated learning
Methodology & assessment
Preparation
A pre-course, online questionnaire could be provided to assess pre-knowledge and further align course content and procedures to needs and interests.
Delegates are requested to bring subject book(s) and/or related ICT materials (if available) to be used when creating customised materials and activities.
The professional development approach is based on structured experiential tasks, peer learning and critical reflection. The course combines plenary, tutor-led introductions of methodological topics & presentations to demonstrate and discuss exemplary corpus-informed applications, materials & classroom procedures.
Follow-up activities include the exploration of relevant (new) apps and other digital tools/content. As well as applying the concepts and design principles presented by creating learning & teaching activities and related materials.
To provide flexible access to course related tasks and resources a course learning management system (LMS) will be used.
After-course access to the LMS is offered to promote follow-up communication and collaborative learning when exchanging (re)designed local practice experiences and materials.
Assessment
At the end of the week delegates will demo, discuss and assess a (micro) teaching unit for local practice and other teaching & learning materials that they created during the hands-on sessions.
