Diversity+: improving inclusion in early childhood education and care
By promoting inclusive education, the Diversity+ project aimed to create a supportive environment for all students, particularly those from marginalised communities.
Its objectives included promoting multiculturalism and diversity in educational curricula, equipping teachers with knowledge and techniques necessary to teach in a diverse school, and supporting multicultural understanding in communities and schools.
The main outcome is the Diversity+ toolkit which includes:
- Diversity+ Charter: an eBook of best practices and a charter outlining minimum requirements for ECEC organisations to consider their provisions diversity-positive;
- Footprint Assessment Tool: an online benchmarking tool for ECEC practitioners to assess their services and track improvements;
- European Quality Framework Profile (level 5): learning resources, a person specification for ECEC Diversity Ambassador, and a roadmap for ECEC organisations towards the role’s establishment;
- Diversity+ serious game: 31 scenarios gathered into an interactive tool to teach small children about bias, differences and respect towards others.
Most resources are available in English, Bulgarian, Czech, Italian, Slovak and some also in Dutch.
