Description

Building on key aspects identified in our report for the EU Commission on bullying prevention in schools, this presentation will examine the range of competences a teacher needs to prevent and intervene in school bullying situations. This will include the need for a whole school system focus, engagement with parents as well as whole class and individual strategies. Different motivations underlying bullying will also need to be recognised. The strengths and weaknesses of some current approaches for bullying prevention will be highlighted, with a view to clarifying also what not to do in a bullying situation.  Teachers' communicative strategies and relational spaces in school will be focused on.
