SEEVAL: building inclusive schools and ownership of values

Social and emotional education (SEE) helps children to develop competences in self-awareness and self-management, and to raise social awareness and improve the quality of their relationships.

The main aim of the SEEVAL project was to prepare an educators’ training course and protocols of action for a whole-school approach in the implementation of SEE. It focused particularly on students from disadvantaged backgrounds in lower secondary and early high-school education (age 10–16 years) by addressing educators’ and learners’ needs simultaneously.

The project has developed a teacher’s guide and a series of activities with a focus on seven personal and emotional competences and seven social, interpersonal competences. The guide is available in six languages and the activities in two languages (one of which is English).

Some examples of the activities are:

  • The colors of Friendship – aims to counter stereotypes and prejudices, cultivate empathy and increase SEE competencies;
  • My school, an inclusive space – analyses the concept of school inclusion and provide equal opportunities to education;
  • Understanding neurodiversity – enables neurodiverse pupils to communicate and claim a learning and social approach based on acceptance;
  • Gender equality matters! – analyses the concept of gender equality, understands how inclusion and equal opportunities can affect individuals and society, and proposes solutions.
