Schools4Inclusion: Promoting inclusive education of migrant children

The Schools4Inclusion project was motivated by the belief that inclusive education can help improve social cohesion, prevent child poverty and foster participation in host societies. Its methodology was based on two principals.

• Inclusive education: the process of responding to the diversity of needs of all learners through increasing participation in learning, cultures and communities, and reducing exclusion from education.
• Whole-school approach: to improve the quality of the education that migrant children enjoy by involving all those dimensions of school life which may have an impact on educational achievement.

The project developed two key outputs.

• Inclusive education guidelines draw attention to the key issues such as human rights and equality, to the challenges stemming from cultural and ethnic diversity, and to strategies for intercultural learning. The handbook is envisioned to increase awareness among stakeholders of the critical issues and best practices related to inclusive education for migrant children.
• The Inclusive Education Toolbox is a platform that includes over 500 resources for schools and teachers. It allows both consultation of the material and the easy sharing of own experiences and knowledge by the participating community.
