Maestri di Strada (Street Teachers) promoting social inclusion in Naples
Through a collaborative network of responsible stakeholders, Maestri di Strada supports young people in the eastern suburbs of Naples to overcome social exclusion, within complex socio-economic and socio-cultural environments. It promotes the principles of engagement, interpersonal trust, cooperation, self-efficacy and reflexivity.
The initiative develops integrated projects aimed at providing educational assistance and fostering the growth of schools and the local community into an educational collective. The initiative involves around 50 different professionals: educators, psychologists, sociologists, artists, and project designers.
The masters of the street form a proactive learning community that:
- plans, implements, evaluates and reflects on educational actions aimed at supporting an idea of school adequate to the complexity of current social life;
- shares successful educational practices to tackle complex educational tasks;
- sets up integrated working groups to prevent any phenomenon of dispersion of personal resources;
- provides support to young people in transitional, school, social or role phases when identity and self are challenged.
The initiative reaches out to about 10 schools and 700 children, youth and families every year.
