The book is intended for use in conjunction with the Council of Europe’s Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture (RFCDC). It provides a systematic review of assessment principles, provides more detailed descriptions of the various assessment methods that may be used, and provides concrete examples of assessment methods that are already being used in some of the Council of Europe’s Member States and beyond.

By reading this book and considering the relevant issues that it covers, practitioners should be assisted in selecting assessment methods that are suitable for use in relationship to the RFCDC and will be able to develop and implement their own assessments.

The different chapters present:

  • an overview of the RFCDC,
  • key issues and principles in assessing competences for democratic culture, and
  • methods for assessing competences for democratic culture, with concrete examples.

The book complements previous publications of the RFCDC available in three volumes.
