Learning about peace

Through learning about Europe’s political, social, economic and cultural knowledge, students can better understand the concept of a European identity and the EU’s commitment to building peace. July expert Aurora Ailincai, from the Council of Europe, also explored the important role of history education in promoting democracy and peace.

Countering disinformation

History education is key in countering disinformation, encouraging critical thinking, promoting civic engagement and tackling hate speech. By teaching young people how to cross-reference data from multiple sources to verify facts, history education can also help in pupils to recognise disinformation and unreliable news sources. In our expert interview, Laurence Bragard from the House of European History also describes the essential role museums can play in fostering critical thinking, active citizenship and inclusion.

New approaches to history teaching

Students can sometimes think of history as a boring classroom subject. We looked at how new ideas and initiatives are changing the way history is taught and understood, making it more approachable, inclusive and interesting to pupils. Our articles also looked at some innovative digital tools to use in history teaching, and at how exploring different cultural movements can help pupils to appreciate the value in Europe’s cultural diversity.
