This school year eTwinning focuses on citizenship education, with an emphasis on active citizenship, critical thinking and learning about the EU and its values.

In the 2024-2029 Political Guidelines, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen highlights the need to protect democracy, engage citizens in decision-making, support young people and promote shared European values.

eTwinning will build on this by encouraging teachers and students to participate in projects on and discussions about inclusion, equality, human rights and democracy during the 2024–2025 school year. The aim is to promote these themes by:

  • Reinforcing citizenship education in eTwinning projects for teachers and pupils.
  • Working together and learning about the EU’s diversity and developing a stronger sense of European community.
  • Teaching and learning about how the EU functions and what it means.
  • Exploring and discussing diverse applications of European fundamental values and citizenship through direct collaboration with other teachers from different countries.
  • Developing critical thinking skills and learning how to analyse information from different sources.
  • Building an active network of teachers committed to promoting active citizenship, critical thinking and European values.

eTwinning aims to involve families, communities and NGOs, so they can help teachers and students to fully experience what it means to be active citizens.

A new online group will provide teachers with resources and activities on the annual theme, starting in October and continuing throughout the school year.

Join the annual theme group now and stay informed about upcoming news and events.
