Description

Why choose this course?
  • Many teachers use the Micro:bit, but very few really understand its full potential. This course will expand the possibilities of working with the Micro:bit by introducing new ideas for its use in the classroom;
  • We directed the course for the development of practical activities in key areas like Mathematics, Arts, Physics, Circular Economy, Biology or Chemistry so that teachers can bridge the gap between technology in education and the remaining subjects;
  • We will learn how to use extensions, control external devices, and perform low cost hacks, multiplying the learning experiences provided by this simple microcontroller;
  • This Erasmus course stands out as the sole program conducted entirely within an Educational Makerspace managed by Buinho Fablab, an European reference in Maker Education since 2018;
  • All of our courses arehands-on, practice-based, and tailored to suit teachers of all backgrounds, including those with no previous experience;
  • All our courses come with free access to online lessons designed exclusively for our participants. These online resources cover all the training materials from the main course and are available for one year. This additional support helps participants feel more confident when applying what they've learned in Lisbon;
  • By enrolling in our courses, you'll receive a micro:bit microcontroller to begin implementing projects with your students immediately.

Methodology & assessment

HANDS-ON: As previously mentioned, our primary distinction lies in our hands-on and highly practical teaching approach. As a FabLab, we always advocate for learning through hands-on experience and prototyping. You can anticipate acquiring a genuinely practical skill set that will boost your confidence in applying the knowledge you acquire.

PROJECT BASED LEARNING: We are strong supporters of the use of PBL methodology and Design Thinking. Our goal is to provide you with effective strategies for connecting your classroom to the broader real world. Additionally, we aspire to illustrate how a Makerspace can serve as a valuable tool for community-wide projects.

MAKER EDUCATION: Maker education emphasizes a hands-on, DIY (do-it-yourself) approach to learning. It encourages students to create, tinker, and invent using various tools, materials, and technologies. Since 2018, Buinho FabLab has played a pioneering role in promoting Maker Education. We have assisted numerous schools in adopting a more maker-centric approach to education.

ASSESSMENT: We will consistently assess the engagement and enthusiasm of course participants regarding the learning materials. Furthermore, we will facilitate a concluding reflection and self-assessment dialogue with all participants to gain a deeper insight into their acquired knowledge and identify potential avenues for future projects and activities.
